Biomass Energy Should Benefit Local Communities in Multiple Ways

The business model applied by CPI in the biomass-based power plant development is always community-centered:

With the aggregated power of 700 kW generated by the project, the communities in the villages are directly benefiting. The economic situation of the villages can be stabilised, and growth is expected with future installations of cold storage units, improvements in agroforestry, and increased electricity access for commercial and productive uses.

Bamboo harvesting provides jobs, and also allows farmers to diversify their income streams, reducing their vulnerability to crop failure and helping them adapt to climate change.

Furthermore, around 450 direct jobs were created in the villages – 150 jobs in each. This proves that production and sale of bamboo provide income and livelihood opportunities, contributing to alleviating income disparities, and improving the livelihoods of communities.

Ongoing and potential Green Jobs creation:

  • Replication of the Mentawai in the villages Soe, Kefamenanu, and Ponu in NTT. The most probable and suitable source to be planted and sold by the local communities is Gamal. Project stage: Completion pre-feasibility study.
  • Replication in Ponu will create job opportunities by approximately 2000 permanent positions through BUMDES, BUMD, and IPP.
